The final event of the European project DigiMedFor<\/strong> (Digital tools and technology systems for the sustainable management of Mediterranean forest resources<\/em>) took place on May 12 and 13, 2026, in Carnoules, France. Coordinated by the University of Naples Federico II, the project is funded by the Horizon Europe program.<\/p>\n

The initiative marked the culmination of three years of research and innovation activities, bringing together project partners, local stakeholders, forestry professionals, institutions, and the scientific community.<\/p>\n

The National Research Council of Italy \u2013 Institute for BioEconomy (CNR\u2011IBE<\/strong>) took an active part in the project’s activities, contributing to the development and validation of innovative digital solutions for the sustainable management of Mediterranean forest resources, within a framework of strong integration between scientific research and operational applications.<\/p>\n

The event was structured over two days: the first was dedicated to the consortium to discuss achieved results, lessons learned, and future perspectives; the second was open to the public, featuring presentations of the project\u2019s main outputs and practical field demonstrations.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the digital tools developed within DigiMedFor were showcased. These tools aim to improve the sustainable management of Mediterranean forest resources and include solutions for forest data collection and analysis, wood traceability systems, and platforms for assessing ecosystem services.<\/p>\n

The field demonstrations, held at the Domaine de la Portani\u00e8re<\/em>, provided a hands-on look at the concrete application of the developed technologies, including CNR\u2011IBE\u2019s contributions to wood qualification and decision-support processes in forest management.<\/p>\n

The DigiMedFor project aligns with European strategies for the digital and green transition, aiming to modernize the forest-wood supply chain in Mediterranean countries through the integration of advanced technologies such as geospatial analysis, artificial intelligence, and digital modeling.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the collaboration among research institutions, enterprises, and sector stakeholders, DigiMedFor has helped strengthen the foundations for a more sustainable, efficient, and innovation-oriented forest management. It highlights the vital role of public research\u2014particularly by CNR\u2011IBE\u2014in developing digital solutions that support the bioeconomy.<\/p>\n
