Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Services

This thematic area focuses on the optimization of efficiency in the use of natural resources and on the enhancement of the ecosystem services that derive from it. This thematic area therefore includes: the monitoring and modelling of biometeorological and biogeochemical dynamics; the analysis of the environmental implications of production processes and products (LCA); the development of strategies and models for climate change mitigation and for the prevention and mitigation of fire risks in forest areas and in urban interface areas-the study of land and areas at risk from soil degradation and desertification; the study of rural development and spatial planning instruments oriented to the enhancement of natural capital, multifunctionality and socio-economic sustainability; the analysis of the dynamics and potential of urban ecosystems.
